New hedge planted at Heath Road Car-park

Friends of Petersfield Heath have been busy planting a new hedge at Heath Road Car-park, by The Little School.

Mark Greef, team leader for the volunteer work-party group of the Friends, co-ordinated the project. Around 50m of new hedging, planted with native species such as hawthorn, blackthorn and spindleberry, was planted on a cold, frosty, bright morning last weekend. The species planted will provide birds and insects with blossom and fruit.

The plan was to create a proper edge to the car-park and to partially obscure the green container used by the Friends to store tools. This project was part of a series of works accomplished by the Friends, to make Heath Road car-park more visitor-friendly. Previous works included creating a natural edge with railway sleepers, preventing cars from encroaching onto the soft edges. Town Council improvements to the car-park surface were also made.
