Kingfishers on Heath Pond
We have kingfishers on Heath Pond!
You need to keep your eyes peeled as you walk along the pond path from Heath Road towards Sussex Road car-park. Two kingfishers have been spotted flying along this pond-edge between the reed-bed and the clump of cut willows. They fly rapidly about 30m out over the water at a height of around 5m, in a straight line, like little darts.
The birds are unlikely to breed in this habitat since they favour rivers and streams with high banks. They are likely looking for food as they stock up on reserves ready for the winter.
